A Flood Watch has been issued for Miami-Dade and Broward counties as South Florida braces for heavy rainfall Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
The alert, which extends through 11 p.m., also includes eastern Palm Beach County, where meteorologists warn that excessive rainfall could lead to flooding on roads, in low-lying areas, and other flood-prone locations. Some areas could see between 3 to 5 inches of rain, with isolated spots receiving even more.
Forecasters say the flood threat is being driven by deep tropical moisture and a low-pressure system approaching from the east. While morning showers will be more scattered, the heaviest rain and strongest thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and early evening. Some storms could also produce gusty winds, further complicating the commute.
Fort Lauderdale’s free vehicle storage for residents
During flash flood watches or warnings, Fort Lauderdale residents may store vehicles at the Las Olas Garage or Riverwalk Center Garage at no charge. Vehicles can be stored for up to 24-hours after the advisory ends.
