Broward Judge Lauren Alperstein of the 17th Judicial Circuit has been honored with the Tzedek Award, a prestigious recognition presented by the Jewish Bar Association for her enduring commitment to justice and fairness.
The award was given on May 29, 2025, in celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month.
“The Tzedek Award is a testament to her dedication and unwavering service to justice,” said Chief Judge Carol-Lisa Phillips. “On behalf of the 17th Judicial Circuit, we congratulate Judge Alperstein on receiving this distinguished honor.”
The Tzedek Award is reserved for individuals who exemplify the ideals of justice and equality—principles deeply embedded in both the legal system and Jewish tradition. The ceremony took place at the 110 Tower in Fort Lauderdale, where Judge Alperstein was also presented with a special proclamation from Broward County Commissioner Nan H. Rich. The proclamation officially declared May 29 as “Judge Lauren Alperstein Appreciation Day” in Broward County.
“I am deeply honored to receive the Tzedek Award from the Broward County Bar Association and the Jewish Bar Association,” said Judge Alperstein. “This recognition holds profound personal and professional meaning for me. As a Jewish judge, the values of justice, fairness, and compassion are not only central to my role on the bench but are also deeply rooted in the traditions and teachings that have shaped my life. The concept of tzedek—justice—is a guiding principle in both Jewish thought and the legal system, and I am humbled to be acknowledged for striving to uphold it in service to my community and the law. I share this honor with my colleagues, mentors, and family, whose unwavering support and commitment to justice continue to inspire me every day.”
