According to investigators, Florida City Police Department (FCPD) uniform officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert and simultaneous 9-1-1 call in the area of 865 W. Lucy Street.  Upon arrival, they discovered a child had been shot and began to perform life saving measures. The child was later identified as 9 year old Antavious Scott.  Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and air-lifted him to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition.  Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier today homicide detectives arrested 19 year old Montreal Savontae Jackson, Jr in relations to the incident. Jackson has since been charged with 2nd degree murder with a weapon.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the tireless dedication and teamwork from my deputies and the Florida City Police Department that led to solving the tragic murder of innocent Antavious Scott. This case weighed heavily on all of us as Antavious was only 9 years-old, but today, justice has prevailed. To the investigators, community members, and everyone who played a role in bringing answers to the family, I thank you. We will always fight for those who can no longer speak for themselves,” said Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz.  “I pray that this brings the family some closure and relief and we will continue to hold the Scott family in our prayer.”
