Richard Lamarre, Broward County Public Schools’ 2025 Teacher of the Year, is set to take to the skies with the elite U.S. Navy Blue Angels, Fort Lauderdale Air Show officials announced.
Lamarre, a science teacher at Miramar High School and a champion of STEM education, was selected for the Blue Angels’ “Key Influencer” program, which recognizes outstanding local leaders. On Tuesday, April 29, Lamarre will strap into the backseat of an F/A-18 Super Hornet for the ride of a lifetime, departing from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (6000 NW 21st Avenue, Fort Lauderdale) at 11:30 a.m. Media are invited to arrive by 11 a.m.
During the 45-minute flight, Lamarre will experience high-speed rolls, loops, and turns — maneuvers that rival the wildest roller coaster rides.
“This is an incredible opportunity,” Lamarre said. “It’s really a dream come true. I’m sure I will remember this experience forever.”
A Florida State University graduate, Lamarre has spent the past decade at Miramar High, where he teaches advanced STEM courses including AP Environmental Science and IB Chemistry. Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s belief in education as a catalyst for change, Lamarre is known for creating dynamic, engaging lessons that ignite students’ passion for science.
Beyond the classroom, Lamarre leads professional development workshops for teachers and helps guide students toward careers in STEM fields. His influence has already produced success stories, including a former student now working as an environmental engineer.
An active community member as well, Lamarre is a certified Master Gardener Volunteer and played a key role in getting Miramar High certified as a Green Flag Eco-School. His initiatives promote environmental literacy through hands-on projects like school gardens and biodiversity research.
Lamarre’s flight comes just ahead of the Fort Lauderdale Air Show, scheduled for May 3-4 over Fort Lauderdale Beach, where the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will headline the performances. The show is the second stop on the 2025 Air Dot Show Tour, which also includes stops in Augusta, Harrisburg, Ocean City, Cocoa Beach, New York, Atlanta, and Orlando.
