The Guyana Police Force is in mourning following the sudden death of Assistant Commissioner of Police Raphael Rose, who served as the Commander of Regional Division Nine.
Commander Rose collapsed and died on Thursday evening while en route to Lethem. Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken said Rose had complained of chest pains moments before collapsing, and it is suspected he suffered a heart attack.
In a statement on Friday morning, the Police Force paid tribute to the veteran officer, describing him as a dedicated leader and respected figure within the organization. He was reportedly preparing to hand over command ahead of his retirement.
Police Commissioner Hicken, who referred to Rose as a “brother,” said the two had worked closely over the years and had met recently. “He was an efficient officer,” Hicken said, “and his passing is a tremendous loss.”
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions also expressed condolences to Rose’s family and the wider Police Force, highlighting his longstanding support for the DPP’s Outreach Programme. The DPP noted that during outreach visits to Region Nine, Commander Rose consistently offered his support, including transportation and the presence of police ranks.
Fellow officers and colleagues have remembered Assistant Commissioner Rose as a professional, respectful, and committed lawman who served with honor throughout his career.
