Canada has imposed sanctions on Carl Braun, the vice president of Haiti’s largest bank, UNIBANK.
Alongside Braun, sanctions also extend to Marc Antoine Acra, previously an adviser to the former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, and Jean-Marie Vorbe, serving as the CEO of a significant energy sector firm.
Allegations of criminal and gang activity
The Canadian authorities, represented by Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, believe these three prominent Haitian figures are instigating violence and instability within Haiti.
According to reports, Furthermore, there is a claim of their involvement in empowering illicit armed groups responsible for instilling fear, thereby undermining peace and security within the nation.

Denial of involvement by Unibank official
In response to the sanctions and serious accusations, UNIBANK’s vice president has publicly denied participating in any form of criminal or gang-related activities.
