The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) in Guyana reported the successful recovery of US$5,500 for a passenger.
Reports are that the passenger arrived in Guyana on April 18, and reported the missing money, triggering a response from the CJIA’s vigilant security department.
Utilizing CCTV footage, the department quickly identified a passenger who had inadvertently picked up a package that had fallen from the distressed traveler.
Collaboration with law enforcement
The CJIA security department wasted no time in collaborating with the Guyana Police Force to track down the individual responsible.
Their joint efforts led them to Berbice, where the passenger was located.
Through thorough questioning and investigation, the Police successfully retrieved the entire sum of money, ensuring its safe return to the rightful owner.
Gratitude and recognition
The relieved passenger expressed heartfelt gratitude for the tireless efforts of both the CJIA security staff and the Guyana Police Force in swiftly resolving the matter.
Particularly highlighted were the contributions of CEO Ramesh Ghir and Commander Krishnadat Ramanarine, whose leadership played a pivotal role in the successful outcome.
Meanwhile, Sanjeev Datadin, Chairman of the CJIA Board, commended the collaborative efforts of the airport’s security team and the Guyana Police Force.
He underscored the importance of such partnerships in upholding safety and security standards within the airport premises.
Ongoing commitment to passenger welfare
Highlighting the airport’s dedication to passenger welfare, Datadin noted that in 2024 alone, the CJIA security department had successfully recovered over 260 items for passengers.
These included a diverse array of belongings such as suitcases, laptops, mobile phones, jewelry, duty-free items, and essential travel documents.
