National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited (NCB) revealed on Monday that it has made adjustments to its automated banking machine (ABM) network after an ongoing review of the risk profile at each location.
The bank announced that the review may include the temporary closure of some of its 24/7 machines at night and/or the permanent closure of locations.
To ensure the safety of its customers, employees, and service providers, the bank stated that it has already reviewed the risk profile of each location and made changes to its ABM network in consultation with law enforcement, service providers, and other authorities.
It also noted that ABMs that were previously subject to vandalism or theft have not been replaced.
Head of Payments Services and Digital Channels at NCB, Danielle Cameron Duncan, acknowledged the inconvenience these changes may cause its customers. However, she noted the importance of prioritizing their customers’ safety and security.
NCB is encouraging customers to make purchases using alternative banking services such as credit, debit, and prepaid cards or Lynk.
Customers can also conduct bill payments, transfers, and mobile phone top-ups through online banking or the mobile app.
Recently, there have been reports of criminals stealing ABMs or trying to clear them of cash.
Last month, gunmen shot members of the Berrylium security team before escaping with a large sum of money from the Jamaica National Bank (JN) at the Portmore Pines Plaza
The attack left one security guard dead and two others injured.
There were reports of another robbery that took place on Sunday, March 19. Four security guards were injured after gunmen attacked another team of Beryllium security guards at Scotiabank in Portmore.
