A Jamaican man is in critical condition after he was shot by gangsters in Belize City on Monday night.
Reports are that the victim, a 30-year-old mason who had recently migrated to the Central American nation, has no known affiliations with any criminal groups in Belize.
According to reports, it is being theorized by investigators there that the Jamaican may have either been mistaken for a rival gang member or could have been targeted as part of a potential gang-related retaliation.
Details of the incident
Reports are that the Jamaican was confronted by three men while seated near a basketball court on Mayflower Street in Belize City at about 8 pm on Monday.
He was shot several times and was taken to the hospital, where he remains admitted.
Reports are that the incident occurred a short distance from a police checkpoint on Vernon Street in Belize City.
Investigation underway
The Belizean authorities have launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend the individuals responsible for the attack.
