Following a tour of sections of St. Ann on June 23, Holness outlined the government’s dedication to creating an environment where young individuals can thrive and achieve their aspirations unhindered.

Transformative youth initiatives

Holness highlighted several transformative initiatives aimed at empowering youth and ensuring their future success.

Notably, the government has made HEART/NSTA Trust programs free of charge, enabling widespread access to skills training and development opportunities.

Additionally, scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields aim to promote innovation and excellence among students.

Removing educational barriers

Addressing barriers to education, Holness announced the removal of guarantor requirements for student loans, facilitating easier access to higher education.

He also praised the Programme of Advancement through Health and Education (PATH) for supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with essential resources and growth opportunities.

Economic achievements and challenges

Discussing economic achievements, the Prime Minister noted a significant drop in unemployment rates to an unprecedented low of 4.2 per cent.

Despite this success, he acknowledged external economic pressures impacting Jamaica, leading to increased living costs and reduced purchasing power for citizens.

Call to action for youth

Encouraging youth to capitalize on available opportunities, Holness urged them to participate actively in the nation’s economic growth.

He emphasized that the government’s initiatives are designed to empower young individuals to realize their full potential and make meaningful contributions to Jamaica’s advancement.
