Guyana’s Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha and his driver sustained minor injuries on Sunday after a car collided with the vehicle they were traveling in.
Reports are that both individuals received medical treatment and were subsequently discharged from the hospital.
Details of the collision
The incident occurred on the Foulis Public Road, on the West Coast of Berbice.
The accident was captured on a CCTV camera and the footage has been obtained by the Police.
Reports are that the Ministry of Agriculture’s vehicle, identified as motor vehicle PYY 994, was navigating westward on the public road.
A motor car, PYY 7716, operated by Delon Campbell, 38, from Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, was traveling in the opposite direction.
The collision occurred when Campbell attempted to overtake a black Fielder wagon, veering into the southern driving lane and colliding with the right side of Mustapha’s vehicle.
Aftermath and medical response
Following the collision, both Mustapha and his driver were promptly removed from their vehicle.
Mustapha received medical attention at the Balwant Singh Hospital, while his driver was taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital.
They were examined, treated, and discharged from their respective medical facilities.
Ongoing Investigation
Reports are that the driver of the car involved in the collision underwent a breathalyzer test, which indicated no alcohol consumption.
The driver is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation.
