A three-day general strike in Haiti which began yesterday, received little support, though many educational centres were closed.
Organized by the Trade Union Anti-Corruption Brigade and driver unions, the strike is a response to mounting insecurity and a call for Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s departure, following the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in June 2021.
Public and private schools were not open yesterday, and some activities operated slower.
Banks, businesses, and public administration have maintained their operations, bolstered by an increased police presence to ensure security.

Haiti, for years, has grappled with an unrelenting political, humanitarian, and security crisis.
The situation has deteriorated further since the assassination of President Moïse with criminal groups obstructing the delivery of essential humanitarian aid, leaving the population vulnerable and starving.
