Belize government warns public: No online gaming licenses currently issued

The Government of Belize on Monday issued a strong warning to the public regarding illegal online gaming activity and widespread misinformation.

Authorities report that numerous online gaming websites are falsely claiming to possess an online gaming license from Belize or are disseminating inaccurate information about the country’s licensing regime.

The Government of Belize reminds the general public that all online gaming operations in Belize are strictly regulated and require a license from the Gaming Control Board, as stipulated by the Gaming Control Act.

Crucially, the government underscored that Belize is currently operating under a moratorium on issuing new online gaming licenses. “As a result of this moratorium, currently no online gaming companies are currently licensed to operate from Belize,” the official statement affirmed. Furthermore, no new licenses will be issued until further notice.

All entities that are currently claiming to hold an online gaming license from Belize have been instructed to “immediately cease and desist, as their operations are unauthorized and illegal.” The Ministry of Investment, responsible for this sector, strongly urged all internet users to refrain from engaging in business with these unauthorized companies.

For those seeking further information on Belize’s moratorium on online gaming licenses or the broader online gaming licensing regime, the public is encouraged to contact the Ministry of Investment directly.
