A total of 9,654,838 visitors were warmly welcomed, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s tourism journey.

This impressive figure represents a remarkable 38 percent increase over the previous year of 2022 and a significant 33 percent surge compared to the previous record set in 2019.

A noteworthy highlight of the 2023 results is the substantial 17 percent increase in foreign air arrivals, reaching a total of 1,719,980 visitors, compared to 1,470,244 in 2022. The Ministry of Tourism attributes this substantial growth to the escalating allure of The Bahamas as a top-tier air travel destination.

Moreover, sea arrivals witnessed an unprecedented surge, with a staggering 43.5 percent increase in 2023, totaling 7,934,858 visitors, compared to 5,530,462 in the preceding year.

Increased visitors across islands

The distribution of visitors across the archipelago’s 16-island destinations further underscores the widespread appeal of The Bahamas. New Providence experienced a notable increase with 4,441,540 visitors, marking a 36 percent rise from 2022. Grand Bahama welcomed 559,812 visitors, representing a remarkable 44 percent increase, while The Family Islands saw an impressive 40 percent rise, with 4,653,486 visitors arriving by sea and air.

Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, expressed his elation over these achievements, stating, “The Bahamas has not only surpassed its targets but has set new benchmarks in the tourism industry. These figures are a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in our tourism sector, the irresistible charm of our islands, and the friendliness of our people.”

Meanwhile, Latia Duncombe, Director General of Tourism, affirmed the nation’s commitment to excellence and innovation in the tourism sector, stating, “As The Bahamas continues to welcome visitors with open arms, we look forward to building on this momentum. With our commitment to excellence and innovation in the tourism sector, The Bahamas is poised for even greater success in the years to come.”
