VP Records celebrates Record Store Day in Queens, NY, on April 12

VP Records is set to mark Record Store Day with a packed day of music and festivities at its flagship store on Saturday, April 12. From live sound system sessions to limited-edition vinyl releases and a special in-store appearance by reggae icon Sister Nancy, the celebration promises to draw music lovers from across the borough and beyond.

The free, all-day event will take place at VP Records’ flagship location at 170-19 Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica, Queens. Running from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., the outdoor showcase will feature heavyweight sound system performances emceed by Chin of Sound Chat Radio. Featured acts include King Jammy’s from Kingston, Jamaica; Brooklyn’s King Addies with legendary selector Danny Dread; Toronto’s King Turbo; as well as Nexxt Level and Kulcha Kartel, who will kick off the afternoon.

Highlighting the day’s celebration is a rare appearance by dancehall pioneer Sister Nancy, who will host an in-store signing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The appearance coincides with the reissue of her iconic 1982 debut album One Two, featuring the classic track “Bam Bam.” This Record Store Day exclusive comes pressed on blue vinyl with updated packaging, including a four-color inner sleeve, sticker sheet, and liner notes from reggae journalist John Masouri. It’s the first official re-press of the album since its original release more than four decades ago.

Fans unable to attend in person can still catch the action via a live pay-per-view stream produced by Rddm Media. The broadcast begins at 12 p.m., with advance tickets available for $19.99 and same-day access priced at $24.99.
