SPECIAL and Ed Robinson collaborate on theme song for ‘Students Are Heroes’ film

Keenan “Special” Bristol, CEO and Founder of Music Brings Life, has teamed up with reggae and dancehall legend Ed Robinson to create “Claiming Greatness,” the stirring theme song for the film Students Are Heroes: A Sickle Cell Warriors Story.

This collaboration is part of a larger initiative to spotlight the critical need for blood donations, particularly in Black-American, Latino, and Caribbean communities where donation rates remain alarmingly low.

Inspired by the resilience portrayed in the film, Bristol revealed that the idea for the song struck him during a reflective jog in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. “I was trying to clear my head, but as I jogged and thought about the movie—especially the scenes where Jordana competes against overwhelming odds—I became incredibly emotional,” he shared. “I’ve never cried while writing a song, but this one was different. I knew I had to share this moment with Ed.”

A song that calls for greatness

“Claiming Greatness” is more than a song; it’s a call to action. Drawing from the film’s themes of perseverance and empowerment, the track encourages listeners to overcome fear and tap into their inner strength. Bristol worked closely with Robinson to ensure the music captured the emotions and message behind the story.

“I shared three samples with Ed to guide him through the mental and emotional space I was in when the song came to me,” Bristol explained. “Jordana’s story is about breaking barriers and realizing that greatness already exists within us.”

A movement to save lives

Beyond its connection to the film, the song supports an urgent mission to educate and inspire action around sickle cell disease. Blood donations are vital for treating the condition, yet less than 3% of donations come from minorities—a disparity fueled by systemic challenges, including fear, lack of awareness, and limited resources.

“This isn’t just about the movie or the music—it’s about a movement to save lives,” Bristol emphasized.

Students Are Heroes: A Sickle Cell Warriors Story is now streaming at musicbringslife.org, accompanied by the powerful anthem “Claiming Greatness.”
