The award, announced on Friday, November 29, recognizes over 200,000 units sold in the UK, according to data from The Official Charts Company.

This marks Cliff’s second track to achieve Silver certification in the UK, following the milestone reached by his classic I Can See Clearly Now just last month.

Originally released in July 1970, You Can Get It If You Really Want is celebrated as one of the most influential reggae songs of all time. Written by Cliff himself, the track combines an upbeat melody with an empowering message of perseverance and determination. The song gained widespread acclaim after being featured in the soundtrack of the 1972 film The Harder They Come, in which Cliff also starred.

Jimmy Cliff, born James Chambers, is a pioneer of reggae music whose career spans over six decades. As one of the genre’s most recognizable ambassadors, he has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Known for blending reggae with elements of ska, soul, and pop, Cliff’s music continues to inspire audiences worldwide.

The enduring popularity of You Can Get It If You Really Want is a testament to Cliff’s talent and the song’s universal appeal. With its latest certification, the track solidifies its status as a reggae classic cherished by fans across generations.
