Haitian Ouigi Theodore opens ‘The Space’ in Soho, NYC

This month, celebrated Haitian-American creative, Ouigi Theodore of The Brooklyn Circus, has announced that the brand will be opening The Space – his second New York brick-and-mortar location.

Most recently, Theodore released a global campaign with GAP that received worldwide acclaim. His The Brooklyn Circus brand has also partnered with the likes of Macy’s, Lee Jeans, Todd Snyder, and Jack Daniel’s.

The Haitian immigrant, who was raised in Brooklyn, has also developed a detailed 100-Year Plan in order to solidify The Brooklyn Circus’ legacy and authentically drive culture forward with The Global Village. 

Members of this group include multi-faceted creatives who think in and out of the box, while working to enrich the collective community’s wealth. Through the 100-Year Plan and The Brooklyn Circus’ style releases, Theodore aims to tell untold stories and inform the future by incorporating elements of the past. The preliminary opening of The Space is just one of the many items that The Brooklyn Circus seeks to accomplish as part of this plan.     

In advance of the Canal Street shop’s official grand opening as a BKc store, The Brooklyn Circus aims to offer The Space to members within their Global Village network as an experimental, rotating experience.

This begun on Friday, April 21, while keeping cultural responsibility and community wealth-building top of mind.   

The gallery-format, 1100 square-foot concept remains intentionally in process, as BKc looks to bring people into their evergreen creative process. It also seeks to offer exclusive on-site access to partnerships that the brand has produced in tandem with collaborators within The Brooklyn Circus community. 

In order to highlight this element of connectivity, BKc is set to work with both large corporate brands and Global Village members including the following:

The Space will exist as the SoHo area’s second Black-owned establishment and signify BKc’s quickly expanding global influence.

To celebrate opening its doors, The Brooklyn Circus has organized an inaugural portrait photoshoot spotlighting 25 thinkers, creators, dreamers, fighters, movers, and collectors wearing tees and sweatshirts from the brand’s latest collection, BlaKc Wash. 

Designed in collaboration with the famed creative team, Art Comes First, BlaKc Wash features monochromatic tones and striking silhouettes that contrast from the standard BKc silhouette and blank, brutalistic nature of The Space

This drop will serve as the first exclusive release that is made available at The Space.  

“With the opening of The Space, I’m excited to begin a new chapter and be able to share my love for art, style, exploration, sustainability, people, culture, and community collaboration through a premium retail experience,” says Theodore. 

“The goal is for The Space to be truly interactive with art, music, and our 100 Year Plan being at the core of its existence.” 

The opening of The Space further goes to illustrate the brand’s rapidly growing footprint within the fashion industry and cultural impact.
