On Tuesday, June 25, over fifty members of the Jamaican diaspora, representing various organizations, participated in a training program aimed at strengthening their organizational administration and enhancing their protocol management skills.
This event marked the first in a series of protocol training sessions organized by the Jamaican embassy in Washington, DC.
The training covered a comprehensive range of topics related to organizational and diplomatic protocol, including best practices for planning and executing events and managing VIPs.
Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at the Jamaican embassy in Washington, Ms. Lishann Salmon, emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “Leaders of diaspora organizations play a crucial role in fostering positive engagements within the Jamaican community through various events. The Embassy recognizes the importance of supporting their efforts to ensure the successful execution of such engagements.”
The initial session introduced participants to the basics of protocol, the role of a protocol officer, and the fundamentals of event planning and forms of address. Ms. Salmon expressed satisfaction with the turnout and high level of participation, noting the Embassy’s appreciation for the diaspora’s efforts in promoting and enhancing Brand Jamaica.
Notable attendees included Jamaica’s Consul General at Miami, Mr. Oliver Mair; Honorary Consul from Philadelphia, Mr. Christopher Chaplain; Dr. Elaine Bryan, Honorary Consul from Atlanta; and members of staff from the consulates in New York and Miami, as well as representatives of the Global Jamaica Diaspora Council.
This training series aims to equip diaspora leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage their organizations and uphold diplomatic standards, further strengthening the global Jamaican community.
