The funeral for the late Jamaican consul general to New York, Alsion Roach-Wilson, will be held on Friday, December 5, at the Community Baptist Church in Englewood, New Jersey. The service is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., the Jamaica Consulate General in New York announced.
Roach-Wilson, who died at home on November 8 after battling breast cancer, was 62. Born in St. Catherine on February 21, 1963, she attended Redwood Primary and Guy’s Hill High School before migrating to the United States. She later completed studies at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn and the American Business Institute’s School of Business.
The Jamaican Consulate will open a condolence book at its offices at 300 East 42nd Street from Monday, December 1, through Thursday, December 4. Visitors may sign the book between 10 a.m. and noon each day.
Roach-Wilson became Jamaica’s 11th consul general to New York in July 2019, overseeing relations and diaspora affairs across 33 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda. Her appointment followed a successful career in the business sector and underscored her long-standing commitment to national development. In August, the Jamaican Government conferred on her the Order of Distinction (Commander Class) for her contributions to education, technology, and healthcare capacity-building. She previously received the Order of Distinction (Officer Class) in 2019 for her philanthropic efforts.
The Consulate General praised her “distinguished service, remarkable spirit, and enduring love for Jamaica and its people,” inviting the public to join the family in giving thanks for her life.
Roach-Wilson is survived by her husband, Omar, and children Brian, Vanessa, and Patrick.
