GraceKennedy Limited, sponsors of Jamaica’s ISSA Boys and Girls Championships (Champs) has an agreement to extend their sponsorship of the event until 2025 in a deal valued at US$4 million.
Biggest scholastic meet in the world
GraceKennedy has been title sponsors of the event considered the biggest high school athletics meet in the world since 2007.
Don Wehby, Group Chief Executive Officer at GraceKennedy announced the extension of the sponsorship on Wednesday at the launch of the 2018 edition in Kingston.
Commitment of over US$4 million
“We have signed a contract, Dr. Small and myself, for another seven years for Grace Kennedy to continue to sponsor Champs, right up until 2025. It is an honor, a privilege for GraceKennedy to be associated with this event,” Wehby said. “We have made a commitment of over US$4 million for the life of the sponsorships.”
The championships will get underway on March 20 and conclude on the 24th at Jamaica’s National Stadium in Kingston.
Cash prize for each record broken
The CEO also announced the continuation of an incentive for athletes to aim for excellence by offering an award of US$230 thousand for each record broken.
This award will be for a school development project and in which the athletes should have an input.
Meanwhile, chairman of the Organizing Committee Collen Montague revealed at Wednesday’s launch that former athletes Carlos Samuels and Winsome Cole will be honored as ambassadors for this year’s event, as will coach Dwayne Jarrett, official Earl Spencer and Champs committee members Glen Mills and Ed Barnes.
