A passenger aboard the Royal Caribbean International’s Spectrum of the Seas cruise ship fell overboard on Monday during the ship’s journey to Singapore.
Reports are that the Spectrum of the Seas was returning from a four-day round trip cruise to Malaysia that departed on July 27.
Royal Caribbean’s statement
A spokesperson from Royal Caribbean confirmed the incident in an emailed statement.
“The ship and crew immediately reported the incident to local authorities and launched a search and rescue operation,” the spokesperson said.
“The shipboard team is working with local authorities and our Care team is now offering assistance and support to the family,” the spokesperson added.
According to reports, at around 7:50 a.m., the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was alerted by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Singapore (MRCC) about the passenger’s tragic fall in the Singapore Strait.

In a press statement, the MPA said that “MRCC Singapore is coordinating the search and immediately issued navigational safety broadcast to vessels in the Singapore Strait and vessels in port to keep a lookout for the missing person and report any sightings to MRCC Singapore.”
