According to Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, the Minister of Finance and the Public Service, the $3 million dedicated to back-to-school initiatives in each constituency will be utilized exclusively for book vouchers and tuition support.

Dr. Clarke made the announcement during the House of Representatives sitting on July 19.

Allocating $1 Million per constituency for community events

In addition to the back-to-school support, the Government will also make available $1 million per constituency through the CDF.

This allocation aims to facilitate various activities in celebration of Jamaica’s Emancipation and Independence, known as “Emancipendence.” The funds will be utilized for community-based events, efforts to enhance local communities, and hosting events at the community level.

Dr. Clarke expressed his hope that Members of Parliament (MPs) would make efficient use of these resources to ensure that Emancipendence holidays become a cause for nationwide celebration and enjoyment for every Jamaican.

Reflecting on last year’s Emancipendence funding impact

Highlighting the success of the previous year’s funding, the Minister emphasized the importance of enabling Jamaicans across the entire country to actively participate in Emancipendence celebrations within their communities.

He acknowledged that not everyone could attend the large-scale event held at the National Stadium, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport, making the community-level events even more significant and inclusive.
