This season marks the second-consecutive year in which the Rhodes Scholar and Ivy-league graduate remains the sole Jamaican to be invited to attend the exclusive event which brings together some of the most influential leaders from across the world. The TIME 100 Summit held in New York City on April 25 witnessed speakers from the fields of politics, business, health and science, culture. This included Filmmaker Steven Spielberg; Speaker Emerita of the U.S. House, Nancy Pelosi; NBA All-Star entrepreneur, Carmelo Anthony; Founder and CEO of AirBnB, Brian Chesky; Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School, Dr David Sinclair; Entrepreneur and Founder, Kim Kardashian; Argentine professional footballer Lionel Messi; French professional footballer Kylian Mbappe; along with Artist and Activist, John Legend.

For 100 years, TIME has challenged its community to spotlight solutions and encourage action toward a better world. This year the event placed special focus on climate action leadership. Following the event, Dr Walcott who is the founder and managing partner of Novamed said, “As the urgency for climate awareness continues to escalate, it is imperative that each of us integrate eco-consciousness into all aspects of our lives.

“Recognizing this, I have initiated a campaign to ensure that every business within our portfolio demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Moving forward, we will be conducting thorough analyses of all business operations involving Novamed, with the goal of implementing increasingly sustainable and eco-friendly practices.

“It’s absolutely critical that we develop more sophisticated eco-friendly solutions across the value chains within the healthcare industries to uphold the sanctity of both human health and the environment. We’re planning to do this within all our portfolio companies including the recently acquired Medical Associates Hospital,” he added.

Dr Walcott’s work to drive impact in emerging market healthcare in emerging markets like the Caribbean and Latin America through his business ventures, along with his passion to drive healthcare innovation through service and investment secured him the second invite to the TIME100 Summit.

“I’m honoured to have received the opportunity to attend such a prestigious event, and recognise that the insights acquired extend beyond my personal benefit or the specific businesses in which I invest, to the broader Caribbean. I am committed to sharing the valuable knowledge gained throughout Jamaica, the Caribbean, and the Latin American region, where impactful climate initiatives will shape the future of these areas in a positive way,” Dr Walcott shared.
