Loop News- The Bermuda Police Service praised Puisne Judge Shade Subair Williams for sentencing a man convicted of sexually assaulting two young sisters to 35 years in prison.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime Sean Field-Lament said the sentence handed down to Locksley Cummings for the “despicable and heinous” crime should serve as a warning to other rapists.
“The 35-year sentence sends an unequivocal message that offences of this nature have no place in our society and will have significant consequences. Hopefully, it will serve as a strong deterrent,” he said in a statement.
“Most importantly, I hope it brings some form of closure and comfort to the victims and family involved in this tragedy and that their healing process can continue, confident in the fact that they will not now have to encounter this individual.”
Field-Lament commended the victims, who were nine years old when the incidents occurred, for their bravery in coming forward and telling their story and the police officers who worked to ensure justice was delivered.
