Caribbean-Americans were among the scores of residents who recently benefitted from the generosity of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs during a recent community event in Miami, Florida.

On December 29, the rapper, joined by his children, provided some coronavirus relief to residents in Overtown, by handing out money and gift cards. Hundreds of South Florida residents had lined up outside of House of Wings to get their share of the cash, Publix supermarket gift cards, and gift bags.

Among those that received gifts were members of the Caribbean community in Miami.

“It takes people with compassion to do what they did in our neighborhood, for the residents of Overtown. We are very grateful to Headliner Market Group, Teens Exercising Extraordinary Success (T.E.E.S.), and the Sean Combs Foundation,” said Pauline Braithwaite, a Jamaican-American living in Town Park South.

Another Caribbean-American, Linet Christopher has been furloughed since March due to COVID-19. She said that she was grateful for the organizations’ support during their time of crisis.

“This was a blessing, and I am incredibly grateful to Headliner Market Group, Teens Exercising Extraordinary Success, and the Sean Combs Foundation. We are in our crisis, and it’s nice to know that we have not been forgotten,” she said.

The event was hosted by the Sean Combs Foundation “Spread the Love” in partnership with Michael Gardner’s Headliner Market Group, and Miami Dade County Commissioner Keon Hardemon.

During the event, Combs announced that his foundation and the aforementioned parties would also provide a grant to T.E.E.S., which will be used to deliver rent/mortgage relief to families in Overtown. Since the pandemic, many Americans have been unable to keep up with rent and mortgage payments because of layoffs, business closures, and other financial challenges.

“Miami is one of the most rent-burdened cities in America, we are grateful to Mr. Combs and the Foundation, for helping to bring some relief to South Florida families struggling.” says a T.E.E.S. representative.
