Mark A. Douglas, Commissioner of the City of Sunrise, has been appointed as Chair of the National League of Cities (NLC) 2020 Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Federal Advocacy Committee and to the Board of the NLC, as well as member of the Florida League of Cities (FLC) Advocacy Committee.
These leadership appointments distinguish the 18-year Sunrise resident and two-term official among State and national elected officials.
The League roles add to the Commissioner’s experience as a member of the Board of the Broward League of Cities, current service on the Board of Trustees of the Florida Municipal Insurance Trust (FMIT), and the Broward County Bar Association. In the recent elections this November, he was returned to office as City Commissioner of City of Sunrise without opposition.
“Sunrise has been a regional leader in advocacy and championing important policies and these roles will allow for me to lead new efforts statewide and nationally by building strong support for vital legislative priorities for affecting the people of Sunrise, the State of Florida and indeed, nationally,” said Commissioner Douglas.
Following Commissioner Douglas’ two years as a member-at-large of the FAIR Committee, NLC President Kathy Maness has now appointed him as chair of the Committee during which time he will also serve on the Board of the NLC.
This Committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s Federal positions on issues involving national economic policy, general financial assistance programs, citizen participation and civil rights, and municipal authority, among other issues.
