The Jamaica government Friday said it is satisfied that the now 28 nationals who have tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19) on a farm in the United States are being treated well.
Earlier this week, Champlain Orchards said that the affected workers, who are all Jamaicans, would receive proper medical care without having to worry about finances.
Champlain Orchards said that based on health recommendations, it has quickly moved to prevent anyone who might have been contagious from coming into contact with other workers.
Labour Minister, Karl Samuda, said he is satisfied that the group of Jamaican farmworkers, who arrived in Vermont in mid-September, are being treated well.
Samuda said that the entire group was tested after one of the farmworkers presented with symptoms and was confirmed as positive for COVID-19.
The Ministry’s liaison officer in Washington D.C. has been in contact with the workers and all are in good spirits, he said, adding that one worker was briefly hospitalised but has since been released.
“We will continue to monitor the situation, however, I am pleased with the level of care they have received. I am also advised that they continue to be compensated during their quarantine period,” said Samuda in a statement.
