KINGSTON, Jamaica – The world’s largest hotel company, Marriott International has partnered with Sandals Resorts International to open a new lifestyle-business hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.

The stylish new $50 million hotel features 220 rooms and offers more than 18,600 square feet of meeting space in six separate rooms, the largest being the main ballroom, with a capacity to seat up to 600 people.

Like the other AC hotels, AC Kingston will feature two food and beverage concepts: AC Kitchen, focused on a European-style breakfast; and AC Lounge, a bar-eatery with tapas and meals for lunch and dinner and a full bar.

The new hotel has also already shown its commitment to being an environmentally-friendly resort. Not only is the property fitted with more than 200 solar panels and energy-efficient glass, but it is the first hotel in Jamaica to offer electric car charging, as part of a partnership established between the hotel, the ATL Automotive Group, and Jamaica Public Service (JPS). The custom-designed charging station will allow electric and plug-in hybrid car owners free charging facilities within the property.

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says he anticipates that the new AC Marriott Kingston Hotel will elevate the capital city and, by extension, Jamaica as the regional destination of choice for visitors and corporate events. Mr. Holness also welcomed news that 219 of the 220 employees are Jamaican, citing this as a “big winner’ while adding that the overall project represents a “great investment” in infrastructural and human capital development.

The facility, which is located on Lady Musgrave Road, was officially open on June 14 and has already started taking reservations, according to Sandals Group Deputy Chairman, Adam Stewart.

Mr. Stewart advised that reservations have already been received for 20 per cent of the rooms, since the hotel opened, while the venue has been booked for 40 conferences and events.

The new partnership by Sandals Resorts International shows not only their dedication to Jamaica’s economic growth but also their commitment to the development of Jamaica’s Tourism Industry, beyond its traditional resort hubs in destinations like Montego Bay and Negril.

AC Marriott Kingston joins a portfolio of newer hotels in Kingston, including the similarly Marriott-branded Courtyard Kingston and The R Hotel in New Kingston.
