Jamaica’s Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen, had a serious message for some 300 members of the South Florida Jamaica Diaspora in Cooper City, FL. on Saturday night, Dec. 9, 2017.

Delivering the keynote address to the 11th fundraising gala of the United Friends of Highgate, (UFOH), Sir Patrick challenged members of the organization and Jamaicans globally to engage more with the next generation –  the youth.

Hold the key

“I frankly believe the Millennials hold many of the keys for the brighter future in which we hope,” he said. “We need to challenge the millennial passion into constructive engagement in our organizations.”

The Governor General, pointing to the success of several

youth leaders in Jamaica, said the youth must be encouraged so that the vision of creating better societies can become a reality. The young people are next in line for leadership … we reinforce each other values and sharpen each other’ vision … your own work in Highgate encourages that mutuality in development,” he said.

Committed

The “UFOH,” pronounced [Hoo-Fah], is the first organization committed to the town of Highgate in St. Mary Jamaica.

The Florida chapter is headed by Chairman Lorrimer Burford and its goal remains “campaigning for a better Jamaica; a safe, healthy and enjoyable place to  work, live and play.”
