Visit Lauderhill satisfied with CPL business

Disappointedly, the crowds did not flock to Lauderhill for the recent Hero CPL cricket matches in their expected droves. Nonetheless, the Visit Lauderhill Destination Marketing Group is glad for the business that was generated during the round of matches that were held at the Broward Regional Park over the last weekend.

The economy of the City of Lauderhill benefitted much more in the past when the greatest party in sport passed through South Florida. Last year some 20,000 persons bought tickets and attended the Hero CPL matches which were played over four days, involving six Caribbean teams. This year however, the matches were scheduled over only two days featuring four teams, and business for the city was not as fruitful.

City marketers undaunted

But Visit Lauderhill Committee member Maria Munro, was undaunted and expressed gratitude for the business, though reduced, that boosted the city’s economy.

“We are very grateful. We do not see a downside to it. People came here from as far away from New York. The restaurants did good business, the gas stations and convenience stores also saw an uptick in sales. This tournament is always a plus for us,’ she told CNW.

Optimistic about the future

Motels and car rental operators also benefitted from business generated through the tournament. Expressing optimism, Munro believes “Things can only get better.”

“We are optimistic that things can only get better and we stand in alliance with the Hero CPL tournament organizers in bringing cricket to this wonderful city in the future,” she said.
