Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic have signed a new Air Services Agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding air connectivity between the Caribbean and Latin America.
The agreement was signed Monday during an official ceremony at the headquarters of the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The accord will govern air transportation services between the two countries and is expected to support increased travel, trade and investment opportunities.
Eli Zakour, Trinidad and Tobago’s minister of transport and civil aviation, led the Trinidadian delegation, while Roberto Álvarez represented the Dominican Republic government.
Government officials, members of the Dominican Republic’s Civil Aviation Board, diplomatic representatives and aviation stakeholders also attended the signing ceremony.
In remarks during the event, Zakour described the agreement as a significant milestone for aviation cooperation between the two countries.
He said the aviation sector continues to play a critical role in driving economic growth and strengthening regional connectivity across the Caribbean and Latin America.
According to Zakour, the agreement will provide greater flexibility in air services, improve connectivity and support tourism, trade, investment and cultural exchange between Trinidad and Tobago and the Dominican Republic.
He also reaffirmed Trinidad and Tobago’s commitment to modernizing and strengthening its aviation sector through international partnerships.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation thanked the Dominican Republic government for hosting the signing ceremony and acknowledged officials from both countries whose efforts contributed to finalizing the agreement.
Officials said they are looking forward to implementing the agreement and further strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
