Premier of the British Virgin Islands Dr Natalio Wheatley is currently in the United Kingdom for a series of high-level meetings with British officials focused on constitutional reform and economic cooperation between the territory and the UK.
According to a government press release issued on May 21, Premier Wheatley travelled to London to meet with UK Overseas Territories Minister Stephen Doughty, alongside other senior UK officials.
During the visit, the Premier’s Office said Dr Wheatley also held discussions with senior parliamentary figures, including a courtesy call on Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the UK House of Commons, as well as meetings with additional UK government representatives.
The Premier’s Office said the discussions focused on strengthening relations between the Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom, advancing ongoing constitutional review processes, and exploring opportunities for enhanced economic cooperation.
“The focus of discussions remained on strengthening the relationship between the United Kingdom and The Virgin Islands, advancing constitutional reviews, and pursuing enhanced economic cooperation for the territory,” the statement noted.
The meetings come amid continued constitutional dialogue between the Virgin Islands and the UK following recommendations arising from the Commission of Inquiry reform process.
Premier Wheatley has previously identified constitutional advancement as a key priority for his administration, while UK officials have maintained engagement with Overseas Territories on governance reform and self-governance issues.
Earlier this year, government officials signalled that further overseas engagements were planned for 2026 as part of efforts to deepen international partnerships and advance discussions on governance and economic development.
The government said it remains committed to “advancing the Territory through strategic international engagement and regional cooperation.”
