Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is taking a bold leap into the future of education with a landmark partnership with Microsoft to implement artificial intelligence (AI) tools across the entire district.
The initiative marks the largest K–12 deployment of Microsoft 365 Copilot in the world, setting a new global standard for AI integration in public education.
“This is an innovative model of 21st-century public-private collaboration,” said Broward County School Board Chair Debra Hixon. “We’re not just adopting new tools – we’re building a future where AI helps every student thrive and every educator succeed.”
BCPS is one of the first school districts to adopt Microsoft 365 Copilot at scale, with a mission to elevate learning, teaching, and operations through AI-driven innovation. The technology will be used by faculty and staff districtwide, unlocking new levels of productivity, creativity, and efficiency.
“This is more than a technology deployment – it is reimagining what is possible in public education,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “In strategic collaboration with Microsoft, we are empowering educators, inspiring students through innovative AI applications and building a sustainable model that can be replicated across the country and around the world.”
The initiative supports a broader vision of transformation for BCPS, focused on several key outcomes:
-
Productivity enhancements for educators and administrators using AI-powered tools.
-
Facility and operational modernization, with AI identifying cost-saving and efficiency opportunities.
-
Classroom efficiencies, including AI-generated lesson plans, rubrics, and instructional content, that free up educators’ time for direct student engagement.
-
Personalized student learning via Agentic AI, offering real-time feedback, translation, and language support.
-
Automated data analysis and reporting, helping administrators swiftly interpret attendance, assessment, and demographic trends.
“Broward County Public Schools is taking a thoughtful, strategic approach to integrating AI into education,” said Matt Jubelirer, General Manager of EDU Worldwide Marketing at Microsoft. “We are working together to bring BCPS’ vision to life – with M365 Copilot, we are equipping educators with tools to innovate, engaging students in new ways, and driving meaningful outcomes across the district.”
Microsoft is also investing directly in BCPS by mobilizing its partner ecosystem and delivering professional development programs to ensure educators, staff, and administrators gain the skills needed to fully leverage the new AI capabilities.
With this pioneering collaboration, BCPS is not only transforming its own classrooms but setting the stage for a new era in education that could serve as a model for school systems nationwide and globally.
