KINGSTON, JAMAICA — The rhythmic pulse of Caribbean boxing is set to beat louder this weekend as Jamaica prepares to roll out the red carpet for a distinguished guest.
Elise Seignolle, a former standout boxer and now one of the sport’s leading administrators, was set to touch down at Norman Manley International Airport as a guest of the Jamaica Boxing Association (JBA). Her itinerary includes a marquee event: the Gloves Over Guns Futures Programme showcase at Kingston’s Stanley Couch Gym on Saturday evening. The highly anticipated end-of-month card will feature a dynamic mix of local talent squaring off against opponents from the United Kingdom and the Cayman Islands.
Leadership in the ring: JBA’s vision gains regional traction
For Stephen “Bomber” Jones, president of the JBA and a newly appointed director on the PanAm Boxing Confederation’s executive board, Seignolle’s presence is more than ceremonial—it’s transformative.
“This weekend marks another historic moment for boxing in Jamaica following the ground-breaking visit from the president of World Boxing,” said Jones. “We are honoured to now welcome Elise Seignolle, the president of the Pan American Boxing Confederation to our shores. Her presence here is not only a vote of confidence in what we are building but it will be a clear signal that Jamaica is fast becoming the heartbeat of Caribbean boxing.”
Caribbean innovation meets global ambition
Jones emphasized that the Gloves Over Guns initiative, which harnesses the discipline of boxing to empower youth, represents the kind of innovation and leadership that aligns with Seignolle’s ambitious vision for the region.
“She will witness first-hand our Futures Program where our young boxers will go up against boxers from the UK and the Cayman Islands to showcase their talents,” he noted. “Elise has also made it very clear that she wants our confederation to lead globally, and we here in Jamaica are ready to play our part—acting as the hub of innovation, excellence, and opportunity for the region. So it’s exciting times ahead and we’re looking forward to welcoming her.”
The visit will run through Tuesday, April 29, and marks another milestone in Jamaica’s ascent as a pivotal player on the Pan American boxing stage. With both Seignolle and Jones having assumed key roles in the PanAm executive earlier this year, the meeting represents not just a diplomatic exchange, but a shared commitment to reshaping the future of the sport in the Americas—and beyond.
