Armed man shot by Broward Sheriff Deputies in Oakland Park

A man was shot by deputies during a tense encounter Sunday afternoon in Oakland Park. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call about a suspicious individual near East Oakland Park Boulevard and Northeast 6th Avenue just before 6 p.m. Upon approaching the man, deputies found that he was armed with a weapon. Despite orders to put the weapon down, the man refused to comply, leading to the shooting

Police attempted to subdue the man, but deputies said he ran toward them, prompting them to fire shots. A worker from a nearby fast-food restaurant, who witnessed the incident, told reporters that the man was armed with a knife. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, but police did not release details about his condition. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the shooting.
