West Indies U19 Women secure narrow win over Nepal in ICC World Cup warm-up

Opting to bat after winning the toss, the West Indies posted a competitive total of 109 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Samara Ramnath, who top-scored with a resilient 25 runs, while Asabi Callender contributed a steady 23. Support came from Jahzara Claxton, who remained unbeaten on 22, and Abigail Bryce, who finished on a valuable 19 not out, helping to propel their team to a respectable score.

Despite the challenges posed by a disciplined Nepalese bowling attack, West Indies’ total seemed achievable. However, it was their bowlers who truly shone, providing a clinical performance to dismantle Nepal’s chase. Trisha Hardat (2-9), Aaliyah Weekes (2-16), and Amiah Gilbert (2-18) each struck vital blows, reducing Nepal to 100 all out in just 19.1 overs.

Efforts not enough

Seemana KC fought valiantly for Nepal with a gritty 23 runs, while Puja Mahato and Kiran Kunwar contributed 18 runs each. But their efforts were not enough to surpass the West Indies’ tight bowling and fielding performance.

With this thrilling victory under their belt, the West Indies U19 Women were now poised to face New Zealand in their second warm-up match on Tuesday. The clash promises to further test the Caribbean team’s preparations for the highly anticipated tournament.
