Thompson, whose blazing 9.79 seconds earned him a silver medal in the men’s 100m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, will now take on the 60-metre indoor event. Among his formidable rivals is Canadian sprint sensation Andre De Grasse, who clocked 6.66 seconds in the same event last year in Astana, as reported by World Athletics.

The indoor meet is poised to be an electrifying showdown as Thompson transitions from outdoor dominance to the sharp, fast-paced world of indoor sprints. The young Jamaican is expected to deliver a thrilling performance, bringing his unparalleled speed and precision to this new stage.

Jamaican sprint power on display

The event will also feature a powerful Jamaican presence in the women’s 60-metre race, with sprint twins Tia and Tina Clayton leading the charge. They will compete alongside their compatriot, the seasoned Natasha Morrison, as well as Bahamian star Anthonique Strachan, adding further excitement to the high-stakes competition.

Adding to the Jamaican contingent, 400m hurdles standout Janieve Russell is set to face off against Barbadian dynamo Sada Williams in what promises to be a fiercely contested showdown in the women’s 400m event.

A landmark event on the Indoor calendar

The Astana Indoor Meet marks the first World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting of 2025, drawing an elite line-up of global talent. Thompson’s debut in the indoor circuit is expected to captivate fans, as his explosive talent and history-making performances continue to solidify his place among the sport’s greatest athletes.

As Thompson prepares to dazzle in his new arena, his fans eagerly await what could be the start of a stellar indoor career for Jamaica’s latest sprint phenomenon.
