Riu Hotel reopens its Negril, Jamaica location after four-month renovation

Riu Negril, a 5-star beachfront hotel located in Bloody Bay, Negril, has resumed operations following a four-month renovation. Originally opened in 2004, the property now offers 600 fully refurbished rooms. Enhancements include the addition of 28 swim-up rooms, providing guests with private pool access during their stay. The hotel’s updated design features a bright and simple interior with contemporary furniture, clean lines, and a color palette of natural and soft tones. This renovation aims to provide an updated, comfortable, and luxurious experience for visitors.

“Guests will be surprised by the brand-new lobby with a tropical and welcoming design, including vegetation and wood and stone elements that evoke the nature and warmth of Jamaica,” said the company’s media release.

Riu Negril now has a total of eight restaurants, three of which are new: the “American Country” themed restaurant, “Pepe’s food” and the “Tiki Taco” taco station for lovers of delicious Mexican cuisine. The hotel has also added two new spaces for events and conferences.

“As for entertainment, the hotel now has five refitted swimming pools: one for water activities, a quiet pool, one for general use, one especially for children and one with a new water bar, which brings the hotel’s total number of bars to six. What’s more, the hotel has installed three pickleball courts, where our active guests can enjoy this increasingly popular sport. Guests will also be able to have the time of their lives with the arrival of the RIU Party events,” a release from the hotel stated.

Every Thursday, as of December 19, guests of all ages at the Riu Negril and Riu Palace Tropical Bay will be able to enjoy the acclaimed Neon Party or White Party events in the hotel’s theatre.

RIU opened its first hotel in Jamaica in 2001 with the Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril. Since then, the hotel chain has expanded its presence on the island, adding several more properties. This includes the Riu Negril, along with resorts in other popular tourist destinations: Montego Bay (Riu Montego Bay, Riu Palace Jamaica, and Riu Reggae), Ocho Rios (Riu Ocho Rios), and Falmouth (Riu Palace Aquarelle).
