KINGSTON, Jamaica — With the momentum of a crushing 201-run victory in the first Test, West Indies vice-captain Joshua DaSilva has hailed the fiery fast-bowling unit as the driving force behind their dominance over Bangladesh.
As the teams prepare for the final showdown at Sabina Park on Saturday, DaSilva believes the blistering pace attack instills “fear” in their opponents, giving the hosts a decisive edge.
The opening Test in Antigua showcased a clinical display of seam bowling, with Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, and Shamar Joseph claiming all 18 wickets to fall. Bangladesh’s batting line-up crumbled in their second innings, dismissed for a paltry 132, as Joseph’s thunderous bouncer forced Shoriful Islam to retire hurt, underlining the ferocity of the Windies’ pace barrage.
Raw pace and ruthless execution
DaSilva, speaking to reporters upon the team’s arrival in Jamaica, expressed confidence in the continued dominance of the pacers.
“You can expect raw pace and talent,” he said. “Led very well by Kemar and Alzarri, we have Shamar and Jayden, who may be young but are already showcasing exceptional skill. You can see the fear in the batsmen’s eyes when they face them.”
Reflecting on the Antigua triumph, DaSilva added, “We took 18 wickets, and that was only because they declared twice. The pace attack is our clear advantage, and we intend to exploit it to the fullest in the second Test.”
Sabina Park awaits another pace assault
As Sabina Park prepares to host its first Test match in three years, questions linger about the pitch conditions following persistent rain. Despite the uncertainties, DaSilva is optimistic about the team’s approach, regardless of whether changes to the playing XI are made.
“It worked in the first Test, but whatever 11 they choose for this game, I’m confident we will get the job done again,” DaSilva assured. “If a spinner is included, so be it, but our pacers will continue to strike fear and dictate the game.”
Focus on sealing the series
With the West Indies leading the series 1-0, DaSilva emphasized the importance of maintaining focus to secure a clean sweep.
“Coming here 1-0 up in the series is always a good feeling, but we’re not finished yet. We’re looking to go up 2-0 and win the series,” he said with determination.
