The electrifying series, which began with a suspenseful draw, swung dramatically over three matches. England’s 55-47 triumph in Manchester had put them in pole position, but Jamaica’s nerve-shredding 50-49 victory in Kingston set the stage for a high-stakes finale on home soil on Tuesday.

A battle of determination and precision

England came out of the blocks firing, seizing early control with a commanding 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Their precision and poise seemed to promise an uphill battle for Jamaica, but the Sunshine Girls were undeterred.

With determination etched across their faces, the Jamaicans stormed back in the second quarter. A flurry of pinpoint passes and sharp shooting allowed the home team to erase the deficit and edge ahead, entering halftime with a slender 28-26 lead.

The third quarter was an intense tussle, with England refusing to back down. They remained hot on Jamaica’s heels, trailing by just three goals at 42-39 heading into the final quarter.

Sunshine Girls shine in the decisive moments

In the game’s dying moments, Jamaica delivered their most commanding performance. Ratcheting up the intensity, they outpaced and outmaneuvered the English side, building an unassailable eight-goal lead and sealing a resounding 61-53 victory to the delight of the roaring Kingston crowd.

Romelda Aiken-George was the star of the evening, producing a masterclass in goal-scoring with an incredible 40 goals from 43 attempts. Her consistency and composure under pressure were matched by Shanice Beckford, who provided stellar support with 21 goals from 25 attempts.

England’s Olivia Tchine delivered a valiant effort, scoring an impressive 42 goals from 47 attempts. Lois Pearson also contributed 11 goals from 13 attempts, but their efforts fell short against the relentless Sunshine Girls.

Victory on home soil

This monumental win on home turf underscores Jamaica’s rising prominence in the netball world. “We knew we had to give everything, and that’s exactly what we did,” Aiken-George said after the match, her joy unmistakable.
