Sunrise Mayor Michael J. Ryan Keynote Speaker for UNCF Annual Leader’s Luncheon

The City of Sunrise Mayor Sunrise Mayor Michael J. Ryan has been selected as a keynote speaker for the 24th Annual United Negro College Fund (UNCF) South Florida Leader’s Luncheon on December 13th, 2024.

The 24th Annual UNCF South Florida Leader’s Luncheon will be held on Friday, December 13th, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa. Attendees to the event will have an opportunity to hear from the keynote speakers as well as engage with local businesses and community organizations dedicated to promoting educational access and equity. Funds raised will support scholarships and programs for students attending historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).  Nationally, UNCF is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.

Mayor Ryan says he is excited for the opportunity to education “Through the sustained work of UNCF and the contributions from generous donors, we are expanding educational pathways that benefit not only individual students but also our entire community and world,” said Mayor Ryan, who has served as Mayor since 2010. “Supporting the UNCF and the HBCUs in our community inspires the next generation of leaders, educators, professionals, dreamers and thinkers.  I am honored to participate in this transformative mission, and I encourage our community partners to help change the trajectory of young minds by working together to build the dreams of tomorrow.”

Mayor Ryan will be joined at the Leader’s Luncheon by Florida Memorial University Interim President William McCormick and UNCF South Florida Leadership Council Chair Thaddeus “Thad” Hamilton, who emphasize the vital role HBCUs play in promoting economic development broadly throughout our community and educational equity. Attendees will also learn more about UNCF’s mission to provide financial assistance and other support to students, underscoring the organization’s message that “a mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in.” ®
