Port of Spain, Trinidad – Inclement weather led to the abandonment of the Super50 match between Trinidad & Tobago Red Force and Jamaica Scorpions at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, preventing a single ball from being bowled on Tuesday.
The result leaves the Scorpions in third place with 40 points from six games, trailing Red Force, who hold the top spot with 51 points, and Barbados Pride, in second with 42 points. The Scorpions have one remaining match scheduled for Friday.
With the playoffs on the horizon, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes are currently in fourth place with 38 points from five matches, clinging to the last play-off slot. Other teams, including Combined Campuses and Colleges Marooners (19 points), West Indies Academy (18), and Windward Islands (17), remain in contention, each having five matches completed.
While the rain kept Scorpions off the field, the Guyana Harpy Eagles wrapped up their Super50 season with a narrow two-wicket victory over the West Indies Academy, marking a positive finish to their campaign. The Harpy Eagles’ win lifts them to fifth place, just outside the play-off cut with 37 points from seven matches.
A promising start
Batting first, the West Indies Academy reached 200 all out in 45.5 overs, thanks in part to a late 26-run cameo from Johann Layne and a 10-run contribution from Jediah Blades. Although the Academy had a promising start with openers Ackeem Auguste and Carlon Bowen-Tuckett putting on 47 runs, they struggled against the Harpy Eagles’ bowling attack. Rampertab Ramnauth (3-24), Junior Sinclair (3-40), and Veerasammy Permaul (2 wickets) exploited a middle-order collapse that left the Academy at 145 for seven.
Chasing 201 for victory, the Harpy Eagles faced an early setback when Blades, with impressive figures, dismissed Junior Sinclair, Keemo Paul, and Tevin Imlach, reducing the Harpy Eagles to eight for three. The Eagles’ innings saw another stumble as Ramnauth and Matthew Nandu fell, putting them at a precarious 77 for five.
The match then pivoted with a critical 76-run stand between Kemol Savory, who scored an unbeaten 56, and Kevlon Anderson, who added 50 runs. Their partnership brought stability, but the Academy responded by removing Anderson and Permaul quickly, keeping the game in contention. Savory, showing composure under pressure, found support in Ronaldo Alimohamed (13) and Ashmead Nedd, who remained not out on 12, guiding the Harpy Eagles across the finish line in 46.4 overs.
With the season’s close, the Harpy Eagles can take pride in their final effort, ending their campaign on a high, albeit missing out on the play-off stage by a narrow margin.
