A 21-year-old American tourist is set to return to court on March 20 next year after being charged with vehicular manslaughter in relation to a deadly crash in Arawak Cay on October 20.
James Darling, of Illinois, who pleaded guilty to a drug possession charge, was granted US$40,000 bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.
The court heard that Darling was driving an ATV when it turned on its side, killing his front seat passenger James Palmer.
Police said that while investigating the traffic accident, they smelled marijuana, prompting them to search Darling where a bag of Colorado Kush was found.
Darling received probation on the drug charge. He’s expected to provide the court with proof that he’s had no further run-ins with the law when he returns to court in March next year to receive a voluntary bill of indictment.
If his record is clean, he’ll receive an absolute discharge. But if he gets into trouble while on probation, he can either pay a US$500 fine or spend three months in jail.
