On October 22, the Broward County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution waiving bus and paratransit fares for voters during the early voting period and on Election Day for the upcoming general election. This initiative allows residents to ride Broward County Transit (BCT) free of charge on November 2, November 3, and November 5, 2024, making it easier for voters to participate in the democratic process.
With early voting for Florida’s November 5 general election already underway, all 67 counties are offering in-person voting options. In Broward County, early voting locations will remain open until November 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Joe Scott, Broward County Supervisor of Elections, emphasized the importance of early voting, stating, “With over two dozen locations to choose from, we have made Early Voting as accessible and secure as possible to ensure everyone can participate in the democratic process. Early voting is a great opportunity for voters to cast their ballots at a time and location that is most convenient for them.”
For voters who prefer to cast their ballots by mail, the deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot is October 24. It is crucial for those voting in person to bring a valid photo ID with a signature. If they lack proper identification, voters can still cast provisional ballots, which will be counted if the signature matches their registration record.
In addition to facilitating in-person voting, Secure Ballot Intake Drop Boxes are available at all early voting sites for voters wishing to return their mail-in ballots securely. All locations also feature ADA-compliant machines, ensuring that voters with disabilities can participate fully.
As of October 23, over 2.2 million Floridians have cast their ballots through early voting or vote-by-mail options, according to the Florida Division of Elections.
Broward County Transit is encouraging residents to take advantage of public transportation to avoid traffic and parking challenges during the election period. The agency’s “Just Try It” campaign promotes the benefits of public transit, which not only offers convenience but also supports sustainability by reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions. BCT provides free Wi-Fi, comfortable seating, and convenient schedules to ensure a smooth ride for voters.
Residents can plan their trips by visiting BCT’s website at www.broward.org/BCT or by calling 954-357-8400 to find routes and schedules.
