Marileidy Paulino, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn among winners at high-stakes Athlos NYC

The Dominican Republic’s Olympic gold medalist Marileidy Paulino and Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn both secured the top cash awards each after dominating their respective events at the inaugural Athlos NYC track meet, an all-female competition held on Thursday.

The prestigious event featured six races, offering significant prize money: US$60,000 for the winners, $25,000 for second place, $10,000 for third, with fourth, fifth, and sixth place earning $8,000, $5,000, and $2,500, respectively.

Paulino, the reigning World and Olympic champion in the 400 metres, extended her streak of victories, winning with a time of 49.49 seconds. The USA’s Alexis Holmes placed second in 49.99 seconds, while Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser finished third, clocking 50.44 seconds.

A comfortable win

Meanwhile, Camacho-Quinn, a bronze medalist at the Paris Olympics, secured a comfortable win in the 100-metre hurdles with a time of 12.36 seconds. Alaysha Johnson of the USA took second in 12.43 seconds, while Olympic champion Masai Russell finished third in 12.44 seconds.

Jamaica’s two-time world champion, Danielle Williams, finished fifth in the event, clocking 12.56 seconds.
