West Indies fast bowler Chemar Holder joins Durham for Vitality Blast finale

Durham Cricket has announced the signing of West Indies fast bowler Chemar Holder, who will join the squad for the final three matches of the Vitality Blast County Championship. Holder steps in as a key replacement for Neil Wagner, whose season was cut short due to a shoulder injury.

Holder, a tall right-arm fast bowler, first made his mark on the international stage when he debuted for the West Indies in December 2020 during their tour of New Zealand, where he claimed two wickets. A month later, he earned his first One Day International (ODI) cap in the series against Bangladesh.

Domestically, Holder gained prominence with an outstanding 2019/20 season for Barbados, where he took 36 wickets in eight matches. His standout performance came against Jamaica, where he recorded remarkable match figures of 11 for 92, propelling him into the West Indies squad.

First-class record is impressive

Holder’s first-class record is impressive, boasting 89 wickets in 27 matches, including five five-wicket hauls. His previous experience in county cricket, having played for Warwickshire in 2021, adds to his value as Durham bolsters their bowling options for the final three matches.

Durham’s Director of Cricket, Marcus North, expressed his excitement over the new signing: “We are delighted to have Chemar join us for the final stretch of the season. He is an exciting talent and brings a different dimension to our bowling attack. With several injuries and international commitments, it was essential to reinforce our seam options, and Chemar’s quality makes him a great fit.”

Holder is equally eager to make his mark at Durham. “I’m excited to be a part of Durham and to have another opportunity to play county cricket. I always give my best on the field, and I’m looking forward to contributing to these crucial upcoming games. If selected, I can’t wait to give my all for Durham,” Holder said.

With Durham pushing for a strong finish in the Vitality Blast, Holder’s inclusion will provide a significant boost to their chances in the remaining fixtures.
