Morgan Heritage host free Homecoming concert as tribute to Peetah

Morgan Heritage says their headlining performance at SummerStage will be a celebration of their brother Peetah Morgan’s life and legacy. The show, dubbed ‘Morgan Heritage Homecoming: A Tribute to Peetah Morgan’, takes place on August 10 at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park, New York City. Admission is free.

The concert brings the Grammy Award-winning reggae group – featuring siblings Gramps, Lukes, Mojo, Una, and next-generation member Jemere Morgan – back for its first live show in their native New York City since 2019.

The show is produced by the City Parks Foundation in collaboration with Capital One and presented by VP Records alongside CTBC Music Group “The legacy we built over the last 25+ years wouldn’t have been possible without Randy and Chris Chin and our entire family at VP Records. So it was no coincidence VP Records saw it befitting to partner with the group and our team at CTBC Music Group to honour our beloved brother and lead singer Peetah Morgan in the place of our birth. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from all around the world, and we can’t wait to continue the legacy on such a legendary stage at Central Park SummerStage. It will be another Rockaz moment!” said Morgan Heritage.

The concert also coincides with VP Records’ 45th anniversary.

Randy Chin, president of VP Records, said, “We’re honored to play a part in Morgan Heritage’s homecoming at SummerStage, especially as we pay tribute to Peetah Morgan, whose legacy continues to inspire us all. Our relationship with the Morgan family has been built over decades of collaboration, mutual respect, and a shared passion for reggae music. So this event, bringing it back to where it all began, is a full-circle moment for all of us. It’s a celebration of their incredible journey and the timeless impact they’ve had on the music and culture.”

Morgan Heritage is a Grammy-winning Jamaican reggae band formed in 1994 by five children of reggae artist Denroy Morgan, namely Peter “Peetah” Morgan, Una Morgan, Roy “Gramps” Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan, and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan. They have toured internationally and released a number of reggae albums.

Peetah Morgan died on February 25, 2024.

The singer’s unmistakable voice has been at the forefront of Morgan Heritage’s journey for three decades, steering the group through some of the most significant anthems in modern roots-reggae.

From timeless tracks like “Don’t Haffi Dread (To Be Rasta)” to soulful melodies like “Down by the River” and “She’s Still Loving Me,” his vocal prowess has left an indelible mark on reggae music.
