Jamaica’s talented midfielder, Kevon Lambert, played a pivotal role in San Antonio FC’s (SAFC) spirited 2-2 draw against Oakland Roots in the United Soccer League Championship clash on Saturday.
The intense encounter unfolded at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas, where both teams showcased their prowess on the field.
In the second half, marked by a flurry of goals, Lambert, hailing from Clarendon, Jamaica, secured the lead for SAFC with a crucial goal. However, Oakland Roots swiftly responded just five minutes later, ensuring the match ended in a hard-fought stalemate.
SAFC positioned fifth in the Western Conference
The outcome of the match leaves SAFC positioned fifth in the Western Conference standings, accumulating 13 points from three victories, two losses, and four draws. On the other hand, Oakland Roots currently occupy the tenth spot in the standings, accruing eight points from two wins, five losses, and two draws.
SAFC’s undefeated record against Oakland Roots continues, with the club leading the all-time series 3-0-3. Additionally, SAFC’s impressive tally of 14 goals in nine matches tops the Conference’s scoring charts, showcasing their offensive prowess.
Reflecting on the match, Lambert expressed a mixture of pride and disappointment in a post-match interview. Despite the team’s commendable performance, Lambert believed they deserved more from the game, highlighting their unwavering determination throughout the match.
Two goals within six minutes
The match witnessed a surge in action during the second half, with Miche-Naider Chery breaking the deadlock for Oakland Roots in the 65th minute. SAFC quickly responded with two goals within six minutes, including Lambert’s well-executed header from a cross by Jorge Hernandez.
However, Oakland Roots capitalized on a penalty opportunity in the 84th minute, with forward Johnny Rodriguez successfully leveling the score once again.
Looking ahead, SAFC gears up for a challenging United States Open Cup Round of 32 encounter against Indy Eleven. Lambert emphasized the importance of recovery and building on the positives from the Oakland Roots clash, aiming for a favorable outcome in the upcoming fixture.
