Strong showing by favorites in Boys’ and Girls’ Champs 100m preliminary rounds

In the opening day of the 113th ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium on Tuesday, medal favorites showcased their prowess in the 100m heats, securing spots in the semi-finals across various classes.

Edwin Allen’s Trezeguet Taylor and Damor Miller of Excelsior emerged as top qualifiers in their respective Class One 100m events, setting the stage for an exciting semi-final round. Taylor comfortably led heat three with a time of 11.87secs, while Miller cruised to victory in the eighth and final heat in 10.60secs.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Thienna-Lee Terrelonge dominated the Class Two qualifiers, clocking an impressive 11.25secs. Other notable performers include Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High, Briana Campbell and Bryana Davidson of St Jago High, and Shemonique Hazel of Hydel High.

Semi-finals and finals of the 100m races are scheduled for Wednesday evening

In the boys’ division, Muschett High’s Johan-Ramaldo Smythe emerged as the top qualifier in Class Two with a time of 10.65secs. Favorites such as Tavaine Stewart of Herbert Morrison, Malike Nugent and Tyreece Foreman of Excelsior High, and Byron Walker of Calabar also progressed to the semi-finals.

The competition was equally fierce in Class Three, with athletes like Mario Ross and Deandre Myers of Wolmer’s Boys, Olando Anglin and Darnell Douglas of Jamaica College, and Naethan Bryan and Rushaun Dunn of St George’s College securing their spots in the next round.

The semi-finals and finals of the 100m are scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening, promising thrilling showdowns as athletes vie for top honors at the prestigious championships.
